Latter-Day Saints celebrates 20th anniversary

Kumasi, Nov. 29, GNA – Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kumasi ended its 20th anniversary at the weekend with a call on members to step up missionary work in all parts of the communities. Former Kumasi Stake President, Kwaku Annoh, who made the call, emphasized that the church is the kingdom of heaven on earth and it behoved on them to work harder so that many will see the light and become members of the church.

Speaking on the theme, “Flowers of Today, The Seeds of Yesterday” at the Stake Centre at Dichemso in Kumasi, Mr Annoh observed that the growth rate of the church was slow and that if that continues, it would mean that they were not doing the work Christ assigned to them. President Rexford Ferguson Obiri of the Kumasi Stake said the Church has 57 return missionaries with 28 full-time missionaries currently working on the field.

He said the Kumasi Stake also has two branch presidents at Bomso near Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Nwamase and six Bishops overseeing the Asokwa, Bantama, Dichemso, Asuoyeboa, Suame and Konongo wards.

President Obiri announced that approval has been given for the construction of permanent church houses for Asuoyeboa and Konongo wards next year.

He pointed out that the theme for next year’s anniversary celebration would be “Reactivation” and it is aimed at bringing back the lost members of the church and strive to win new members.

Mr Samuel Stanley Darko, Director of the Kumasi Stake of the church, said the Stake through its activities, behaviour and attitudes of members now has a membership of 3,000.

He hoped members would continue to lead healthy lifestyles and intensify their outreach programmes to attract more people to the Church and to Christ.
