Tema, Nov. 22, GNA – Mrs Philomena Edusei, Tema Municipal Electoral Officer, on Monday reiterated that only people with Photo Voter Identification Cards (ID) would be allowed to vote on 7 December. She, therefore, advised those with only registration slips not to go near the polling centres to create problems because they would definitely be restricted.
Mrs Eduei, who was educating 152 police personnel drawn from the Tema region on the electoral process called on Presiding/Returning Officers to be extra vigilant to avoid any confrontations.
He advised the police to be non-partisan and to conduct themselves according to the regulations of the Electoral Commission Mrs Edusei Debase said the police would not be permitted to take part in the checking of ID cards, counting of votes and cautioned them not harass or intimidate candidates or voters.
He said the police would be expected to ensure order and that voting materials were secured and reach polling centres at the appropriate time and should carry out instructions of the presiding officers. Mr Edusei said on the voting day, candidates and their spouses could go round the polling centres to check on the procedure.
Mrs Agnes Sikanartey, Tema Regional Police Commander, urged all police personnel to conduct themselves well at the polling stations to avoid troubles in order not to put the name of the Service into disrepute. The Tema municipality consist of five constituencies: Tema East, Tema West, Ashaiman, Adenta and Kpone/Katamanso with 362 polling centres and 28 parliamentary aspirants, including eight independent candidates. About 377,412 registered eligible voters in the Tema municipality are expected to cast their votes on the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The figure represents about 90 percent of people who took their pictures.
