EDITORIAL: Daily Graphic Must Investigate And Take Action

Was it a hoax? Was it something done with malice? Who was behind it?

One of the NDC-supporting newspapers published a dummy paper and claimed it had been prepared by the state-owned Daily Graphic beforehand to announce a Kufuor victory on December 9, 2004.

This, the paper said, was yet another example of the rigging that would take place to declare President Kufuor winner.

As usual it made the rounds of the electronic media as people chewed and spat out their takes on it. It was easily proved to be a hoax.

The Editor of Daily Graphic, Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo dissociated himself from it.

But we believe it must not end there. The management of the Graphic Communications Group must set up a probe to determine just what happened and sanction all those involved in this dangerous caper.

In an election year full of uncertainties like this one, we cannot afford such dangerous jokes.
