? SFO ASSISTING WITH PROBE

Activities of some revenue collectors of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and their conspirators have led to the loss of about 70 per cent of its potential revenue this year.

Nii Adjiri Blankson, Chief Executive of AMA, disclosed this recently at the first ordinary meeting of the Assembly?s third session.

He said investigations by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) had led to the discovery of printing houses involved in the printing of fake AMA tickets and receipts which some unscrupulous staff were using to milk the Assembly of badly-needed revenue.

A number of AMA operatives have been arrested while 20 AMA staff have been interdicted for conning with the printers of the fake tickets, he said.

He said the SFO investigations also helped to expose some printers who were involved in printing fake tickets and receipts of other District and Metropolitan Assemblies, as well as organisations.

The Chief Executive was also not happy with the level of expenditure of the Assembly saying that, ?I have been alarmed, if not seriously frightened, by the expense.?

To cut down on such expenses, he suggested to the Assembly to refer pressing issues worthy of scrutiny and examination to the ?appropriate and requisite mandated Sub-Committee? instead of setting up new committees to sit on the issue.
