NGO presents findings on HIV/AIDS to Omanhene

Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), Nov 12, GNA – Healthcare Christian Fellowship, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) involved in HIV/AIDS education in some parts of the Amansie West District, has presented findings of its counselling activities to Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah, Omanhene of the Manso-Nkwanta Traditional Area.

Mad Esther Mensah, founder and president of the fellowship who presented the findings, mentioned wake-keeping, video shows, handling of the dead from AIDS as some of the factors contributing to the spread of the disease in the area.

She said it was discovered that during wake-keepings the youth engage in unrestrained sex, thus spreading the disease. Mad Mensah said another potential source of the spread of the disease was through the laying in state of persons who die from AIDS. She called on Community Based Volunteers to identify People Living With AIDS (PLWAs) and AIDS orphans for assistance.

Mad Mensah appealed to the Ghana AIDS Commission for means of transport and logistics to be able to cover the remotest communities. In a related development, the Christian Fellowship has organised a five-day training workshop for 40 community-based volunteers drawn from unit committees and some communities.

The training workshop was designed to help identify PLWAs and AIDS orphans in the communities for support and preventive care and was also designed to correct information on HIV/AIDS.
