Court fines farmers for refusing to pay special levy

Nyinahin (Ash), Nov 11, GNA – A Magistrate Court at Nyinahin on Thursday sentenced four farmers from Kansakrom near Nyinahin to a fine totalling 1.5 million cedis for refusing to pay a special levy of 10,000 cedis towards the construction of a borehole for the town.

Kwabena Poku, 31, Yaw Alanga, 36, Kwame Yeboah, 30, and Philip Zari, 26 pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector George K. Letsah told the Court that Nana Amankwaa Bi-Kra II, Odikro of the town and the Unit Committee jointly instituted a levy to be paid by every adult in the town towards the project.

He said the accused persons failed to pay the levy despite several persuasions.
