Mateheko resident call for action on road project

Accra (Greater Accra), 26 Jan. ’99 – Residents of Dansoman Asoredanho and Mateheko have appealed to the Department of Urban Roads to get the contractor working on the Asoredanho-Mateheko road to speed up work. They said work on the three-kilometre road linking Dansoman to Kaneshie, Russia, Sukura and Mateheko has been unnecessarily delayed for more than four years. They told newsmen today that most private and commercial drivers have stopped plying the route because the road is bad. The residents said commercial drivers who use the road at certain hours of the day charge extra fares with the reason that the extra amount paid is used to maintain the road. Ms Gladys Adwoa Konadu-Dankyi, Director of the Burger King Fast Food and Catering Services and Mr Samuel Kwame Sah Buadu, Proprietor of Prince Paradise Enterprise, residents of the area, said what has worsened the plight of inhabitants and drivers is that the construction of storm drain between the Police Quarters and Asoredanho has been abandoned by the contractor. Ms Konadu-Dankyi said after constructing a trench across the road in October, “the contractor has not done anything except to deposit some concrete blocks and sand along the road.” Ms Ramatu Mohammed, a trader, said if work on the road is not completed before the rainy season, it will cause flooding.
