PBC honours farmers

Nyinahin (Ash), Nov.9, GNA – The Produce Buying Company (PBC) at the weekend honoured 30 farmers who distinguished themselves in cocoa production, at Nyinahin in the Atwima-Mponua District of Ashanti. They received roofing sheets, Wellington boots, matchets, lanterns and certificates as their prizes.

Nana Adjie Manu Berchie, the Nyinahin District Manager of the PBC, advised cocoa farmers to always insist on the use of the Akuafo Cheque for the payment of their crop purchased.

He also asked them to ensure that the Marketing Clerks recorded all purchases in their passbooks so that their children and wards could qualify for the Cocoa Board scholarship.

Nana Berchie urged cocoa farmers to continue to do business with the PBC and said the Company would always insist on buying only quality cocoa to maintain the country’s high standard of cocoa on the international market.

Mr Maxwell Osei Boadu, Nyinahin District Quality Control Officer, taught the farmers how to process cocoa to meet internationally accepted standards.

Opanin Yaw Bronya, the District Chief Farmer, warned cocoa farmers against the activities of people who posed as marketing clerks to dupe farmers.
