Supervision to be intensified in schools in Obuasi

Obuasi (Ash), Nov.9, GNA – The Obuasi Municipal Directorate of Education will intensify its supervision and monitoring roles in schools in the area, as part of efforts to maintain its first position on the national Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) league table. The Municipality, which was formerly called Adansi West, placed fifth in the national BECE results analysis last year, and worked hard to take the first position this year.

Mr Samuel Kofi Okyere, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, who said these in an interview with the press at Obuasi at the weekend, said, “Supervision is most important to the promotion of teaching and learning”.

He said the Directorate would also organise in-service training programmes for teachers to equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills required for effective teaching and learning.

Mr Okyere said the Directorate with assistance from the Department for International Development, presented furniture to schools and supplied school uniforms and writing materials to needy pupils. Mr Okyere commended Ghana Education Service and Japan International Co-operation Agency for enhancing the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in schools in the area. He also praised the teachers for their contribution to the development of education in the district.

Mr Okyere said: “we are also proud about the support the District Assembly which enacted bye-laws on the banning of video games during school hours and children below the age of 18 from roaming about in the district after 2000 hours”.

He said with all these measures, it was the expectation of the district to improve upon its performance hence “we are first in this year’s BECE nationwide”.
