Fifty billion-cedi National Youth Fund launched

Takorase (E/R), Nov. 9, GNA- The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu on Tuesday launched a 50 billion-cedi National Youth Fund, at the Takrowase Youth Leadership Training Institute in the Kwaebibrem District of the Eastern Region. The Fund will offer financial support to people who have acquired skilled training to start off.

Mr Baah Wiredu said an initial amount of 10 billion cedis had been released by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. The Training Institute became the first beneficiary of the Fund by receiving a cheque for 358.2 million cedis.

In an address read on his behalf, the Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Francis Osafo-Mensah said Government was focussed in providing entrepreneurial training to the youth.

Dr Osafo-Mensah called on the beneficiaries of the fund to make good use of it and pay back at the stipulated period to enable others to benefit from the facility.

The Principal of the Institute, Mr P.P. Yakah said the Institute had plans to register all youth groups in the area to assist the National Youth Council to update its data on organizations engaged in youth development for effective coordination.

The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Mr K.A. Kissi presented four computers and accessories, three sewing machines and a gas cooker to the Institute.
