Government gives to Wiredukrom flood victims

Wiredukrom (Western Region), 25 Jan. ’99, Major Samuel Kwame Amponsah (rtd), MP for Mpohor Wassa East, on Friday presented five packets of roofing sheets and 50 blankets on behalf of the Government, and a personal donation of 25 bags of cement to flood victims at Wiredukrom in the Mpohor Wassa East District.

Major Amponsah said it has taken the government a long time to come to their aid because of the volume of appeal for assistance from victims of disasters throughout the country. He said the government will not discriminate in the allocation of projects adding that any community that initiates projects to improve upon their living conditions would win government assistance.

Major Amponsah asked the people to plant trees to serve as a wind-break and to plaster their mud houses with cement. Mr. Sam. Buxton, District Disaster Control Officer, said the area is flood prone and urged the people to move to a new site to be given to them. Opanyin Larbi, received the items on behalf of Nana Kwamena Wiredu, chief of the village.
