Confirmed – Kufuor Opts Out Of Presidential debate

The National Chairman of the Ruling New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Harouna Esseku, has says President John Agyekum Kufuor will not participate in the Presidential debate being organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs, (IEA) which is scheduled to come off on the 16th of this month. Instead, the President will meet the journalists at a press conference at which will answers questions from the members of the media before the December 7th elections.

Speaking to Happy fm, Mr. Esseku dismissed suggestions by the Acting Head of Governance of the IEA, Dr. Kwasi Jonah that the chairmen of the all political parities including him (Mr. Esseku) earlier in the year promised to ensure that their Presidential Candidates take part in the debate. Dr. Jonah earlier this week in an interview with Happy FM expressed the confidence that all the Presidential candidates including Mr. Kufuor will take part in the programme. But Mr. Esseku says that the leadership of the NPP believes that President Kuffour will not benefit from such an exercise, hence his decision not to take part in it. He said the party?s decision that President Kuffour will not take part in the debate is final.
