Bekwai (Ash), Nov. 3, GNA – Chief Superintendent Charles Bukari, Amansie East District Police Commander, has asked supporters of the various political parties to follow laid down procedures in the conduct of their electioneering campaigns.
He said the Public Order Act, which controlled organization of public functions was not new and that it was an amalgam of previous laws on the conduct public functions.
Speaking at a seminar organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) at Asante-Bekwai for the various political parties in the Bekwai Constituency, Chief Supt. Bukari appealed to the political parties not to use intemperate and derogatory language that would not only humiliate their opponents but also enrage them. The seminar had as its theme: “Maintaining a Peaceful Atmosphere, Before, During And After The Elections.”
Mr Yaw Oppong-Fosu, Amansie East District Director of the NCCE, said democracy thrived in an atmosphere of peace, stability and rule of law.
Equally important for the survival of democracy, he said, was that, political parties and all stakeholders must comply with well defined rules and regulations.
Mr Richard Aboagye, District Chief Executive, asked the political parties to warn their supporters on the dangers of removing the posters, banners and other materials of their opponents. The Reverend Samuel Kusi of the Methodist Church at Bekwai noted that peace was an essential tool for development.
