Chinese Ambassador presents sewing machines to club

Ejisu (Ash), Nov 2, GNA – The Chinese Embassy in Ghana has donated 30 sewing machines to the Yaa Asantewaa Virgins Club at Ejisu. The gesture was through the initiative of Mr Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu-Juaben.

Two representatives from the Embassy, Mr Wang Jinghua and Mr Wang Zhihang presented the items on behalf of the Chinese Ambassador. Mr Jinghua said China was committed to assisting Ghana to reduce poverty and that Ghanaian and Chinese women needed support to enable them to play meaningful roles in the economic development of their countries.

Mr Zhihang said the Chinese Embassy would initiate plans to train women in the district to enable them to become self-sufficient. Mr Osei-Adjei urged the Club to work assiduously so that it could achieve its objectives and asked them to be economically self-reliant to avoid been lured by men into sexual relationships. Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, the Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, expressed appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for the assistance and promised that the machines would be put to good use.

Mr Osei-Adjei on behalf of the Ghana AIDS Commission presented five million cedis to the Club to assist it to undertake programmes aimed at preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. 2 Nov 04
