Ho, Oct. 31, GNA – The Methodist Church is generating funds internally to undertake a facelift of all its dilapidated school structures across the country, the Most Reverend Dr Robert Akwasi Aboagye-Mensah, Presiding Bishop of the Church said last Friday.
He said members of the Church were expected to pay at least 2,000 cedis every month towards the Methodist Education Fund to be operated like the GETFUND.
The Most Reverend Dr Robert Akwasi Aboagye-Mensah announced this when he was addressing a congregation of the Emmanuel Methodist Church in Ho as part of his maiden visit to the Ho Circuit of the Church since his consecration last year.
He said 25 per cent of the contributions would be retained by the various dioceses for rehabilitation works and the building of new schools.
Bishop Aboagye-Mensah said special cards would be issued to Church members for entries of contributions, records of which would be computerised.
He expressed regret at the state of some of the school structures in the Volta Region, stressing, “we can do better, we are determined”. Bishop Aboagye-Mensah said the Methodist Church did not ignore the Volta Region but it was seriously planning evangelism outreaches in the region to win more souls.
He said it was too early to give the region a diocesan status since there was “a little more planning and work on the ground to do”. We don’t want to create a second rate diocese which will not function”. Rt. Rev. Samuel Achamfuor-Yeboah, Bishop of Tema Diocese of the Church, under which Ho Circuit falls, announced that an Ewe Methodist Hymnbook would be circulated by February next year.
Mr Kokutse Dotse, Circuit Steward, requested for a vehicle for the Circuit to facilitate evangelism and to “shepherd the young Societies”. He said the Methodist Church in the Ho Circuit as a “floating Church” whose members, mainly workers, leave for their former stations or hometowns to worship recurrently.
Mr Dotse said the Church had acquired a 30-acre land and two building plots for developmental projects in the Circuit. Representatives of other Societies within the Ho Circuit, which has about 15 Societies, were present at the meeting. They are those in Keta, Aflao, Tsito, Denu, Ziavi, Hohoe and Ve-Golokwati.
