Two escapees jailed 36 months

Agona Swedru, Oct 27, GNA – Two suspects who attempted to escape from lawful custody at the Agona Nyakrom District Police cells have been jailed 18 months each by the Agona Swedru Magistrate court. Kojo Arhin, 24 and Kojo Nyakoh, 25 years old who were placed in cells on stealing charges pleaded guilty for attempting to escape from lawful custody.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector H. N. Kwofie, told the court presided over by Mr Abdul Fatawo Yakubu, that the accused persons were arrested and placed in cells on 16 October 2004, for unlawful entry and stealing charges.

He told the court that Kojo Nyakoh stood on the shoulders of Kojo Arhin and succeeded in removing the roof of the cells. According to the prosecution a Good Samaritan who was passing by the Police Station spotted the accused persons attempting to escape through the roofing and alerted the Police personnel on duty who quickly re-arrested them.

Chief Inspector Kwofie told the court that the accused persons would be re-arraigned before the court to face their original charges of stealing and unlawful entry after serving their sentence.
