Health NGO offers free health education to travellers

Kumasi, Oct. 22, GNA – Mrs Agatha Amoaten-Boahen, a private midwife running the Maranatha Maternity Clinic at Asuoyeboa in Kumasi has stated that health delivery in the country should not be the sole preoccupation of government but that the concern should be shared by all. Mrs Amoaten-Boahen said corporate bodies, NGO’s and civil society groups should all contribute their quota to achieve optimum health care for all.

She was addressing a health education programme on HIV/AIDS, and general screening for diabetes, hypertension and other common diseases for members of the Kumasi-Sefwi- branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport (GPRTU) held at the Kejetia Lorry Park.

The exercise was organised by SAMORGHEP, an NGO, which has among its objectives to offer free public health education on HIV/AIDS, diabetes, safe motherhood, tuberculosis, drug abuse and others. Mrs Amoaten-Boahen who is also the Executive Director of the NGO said as part of steps to realise its objective, an outreach clinic had been sited at the Kejetia around the Kumasi-Sefwi Station to cater for travellers in the event of sudden attacks or ailments.

She said those whose cases were found to be serious were given referral notes to polyclinics and other bigger health facilities to continue treatment. The Executive Director appealed to the Ghana AIDS Commission and other philanthropists to assist the NGO in the form of cash, drugs and other logistics. 22 Oct. 04
