A 28-year-old undertaker has been found dead in her boyfriend’s room at Essikadu in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of Ghana’s Western Region.
The woman, identified as Maame Ekua, also known as Elizabeth Sackey, had told her mother that she was travelling to Obuasi to work on a body.
Her mother, Ekua Tawiah Badu, said her daughter told her on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, that she would travel over the weekend for the undertaking assignment.
Maame Ekua left their home in New Takoradi on Thursday, leading her mother to believe she was away in Obuasi.
However, on Saturday, November 7, Mrs Badu received a telephone call about an emergency involving her daughter at Essikadu Hospital.
She went immediately to the hospital but could not find Maame Ekua there. She was then directed to a house in Essikadu, where she was told that her daughter had been found dead inside a room.
Speaking about the incident on Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show with host Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, Mrs Badu said she was shocked to learn that her daughter had not travelled to Obuasi.
“She is an undertaker. She told me on Wednesday that she was going to Obuasi this weekend to work on a body.
“So she left on Thursday. I was home this Saturday when I was called that there was an emergency at the Essikadu Hospital involving my daughter, and I went there immediately, even though I knew my daughter was out of town. Unfortunately, I did not find her at the hospital.
“They instead took me to a house in Essikadu, where I was told my daughter was lying dead in a room.
“She was lying restlessly, and I found her dead in the room.
“She had visited a boy at Essikadu after telling me she was going to Obuasi and had died in the boy’s room. Police have arrested the boy,” she said.
Maame Ekua was a single mother of three children.
Police have arrested her boyfriend as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding her death.
