Teenager fined 500,000 cedis for stealing cocoa

Twifo Praso (C/R), Oct 20, GNA – Prince Kotokyi, an 18 year- old boy, was on Tuesday sentenced to a fine of 500,000 cedis for stealing a bag of cocoa valued at 634,000 cedis by a magistrate’s court at Praso. In default, he will go to jail for four months.

The court also bonded the accused, who pleaded guilty to stealing, to be of good behaviour for six months.

Prosecuting, inspector George Okyne told the court that on October 15 the complainant, Mr Kwame Frimpong who had stored some cocoa in his kitchen, detected that his kitchen has been forced open and the cocoa stolen.

Prosecution said the accused was later seen carrying a bag of cocoa and when he was challenged he abandoned it and bolted. But he was later arrested and handed over to the police.
