Jomoro Member of Parliament Dorcas Affo-Toffey has supported Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), skilled artisans and community health service providers in the Western Region with cash, business equipment and first-aid supplies.
The intervention is intended to improve livelihoods, encourage entrepreneurship, create employment and strengthen access to essential services for residents across the constituency.
PWD beneficiaries received 30 chest freezers, as well as financial assistance in varying amounts, to help them start or expand businesses, improve their incomes and become more financially independent.
Other items presented included tricycles, commonly known as Aboboyaa, sewing machines, cooking utensils, gas cylinders and gas ovens.
The MP said the support was designed to empower vulnerable groups and provide them with practical resources to build sustainable livelihoods.
As part of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Model, artisans taking part in the Skilled Support Training Programme were also given equipment to help them establish businesses and become self-employed.
The tools included sewing machines, hair dryers, wheelbarrows, shovels, electric irons and spraying machines, along with other essential items required for their trades.
The programme is expected to promote skills development and entrepreneurship while contributing to efforts to reduce youth unemployment in Jomoro.
The support also extended to healthcare services. Community medical first responders, particularly ambulance service assistants, received first-aid equipment to improve their ability to deal with basic health emergencies.
The equipment is expected to strengthen emergency response at community level and improve the quality of assistance available to residents who require immediate medical attention.
In a separate development, Ms Affo-Toffey commissioned a building to house the Births and Deaths Registry and the National Identification Authority (NIA).
The facility is intended to make registration and identification services more accessible by bringing the two public institutions closer to residents. It will also reduce the need for people to travel long distances to obtain those services.
In a statement on the interventions, the Jomoro MP reaffirmed her commitment to empowering residents, creating opportunities and ensuring development reaches communities throughout the constituency.
She said she was hopeful that the initiatives would improve livelihoods, promote self-reliance, support local businesses and strengthen the provision of essential public services.
The projects form part of Ms Affo-Toffey’s stated commitment to inclusive development and improving the welfare of people in Jomoro.
