Ebo Quansah Exposed

It has now been established that the story carried in Ebo Quansah?s ?Evening News? with the Screaming headline, ?Mills rejected in his home town? is a culpable lie that should be treated with contempt.

The story, according to on-the-ground investigations, was framed up to throw dust into the eyes of the reading public and dampens the spirit of the overwhelming supporters of the party.

In an interaction with the press, Mr. Kuntu Takyi, the Mfantseman East Constituency Chairman, corrected a wrong twist given to a statement he had given to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in the previous week. It is very surprising that ?Evening News? alone saw the statement in the perspective that it did and not as the other papers saw it.

He said the statement he issued did not mention Prof. Atta Mills anywhere and that it was the Parliamentary Candidate who was mentioned and intimated that ?this goes to prove that some journalists have very dangerous agenda to run down the NDC and its leaders.?

?But let me say that such people do not have the welfare of the state at heart but only their parochial interest? he asserted. He pointed out that the party only expressed its displeasure about a traditional ruler, who summoned some Chiefs and elders from some communities in the Ekumfi State and reprimanded them for receiving delegations of the campaign team of the NDC Parliamentary candidate (and not the Presidential candidate) and regretted that the traditional ruler would act that way.

He therefore challenged the editor of the ?Evening News? to publish the original statement as presented by his source ?the Ghana News Agency?. The Constituency Chairman said journalists would do the country a lot of good if they would be circumspect in their reportage especially at this time of the count down to election 2004.
