Committee reviews how District Assemblies used 20% DACF sanitation and water allocation

The Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources has held public hearings in the Central and Western Regions to examine how District Assemblies received and spent their 20% allocation from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

The allocation is divided equally, with 10% designated for sanitation and the remaining 10% intended for the drilling and provision of mechanized boreholes.

Representatives of the respective Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) presented details of the funds they had received and explained how the money had been used. The Committee also examined the sanitation and mechanized borehole projects carried out with the allocation.

Its assessment covered the progress of the projects, their impact on beneficiary communities and the difficulties faced by the assemblies in accessing and using the funds.

Members of the Committee subsequently debated aspects of the reports submitted by the MMDAs following the presentations.

The public hearing was also aimed at establishing whether the funding had led to improvements in sanitation and increased access to potable water in the communities that benefited from the projects.
