Gomoa District Assembly elects new Presiding Member

Apam (C/R), Oct. 16, GNA – A 48-year-old tutor of the Gomoa Secondary Technical School at Dawurampong, Mr Fred Oscar Abban, was on Thursday elected as the new Presiding Member of the Gomoa District Assembly.

Mr Abban’s contestant, Prince Charles Abbam stepped down after the first balloting, which ended 49-17 in favour of Abban. He polled 57 votes as against nine in the second balloting to confirm his acceptance.

The District Electoral Officer and his staff conducted the election.

Mr Abban who succeeded Mr Frank Essel Cobbah, in an acceptance speech expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the confidence reposed in him.

He called for co-operation from members, the administration staff and heads of departments to move the district forward especially in the field of education, health and poverty reduction.

Mr Abban pledged to offer a dedicated service not only to the Assembly, but also to all people residing in the Gomoa District and appealed to them to bring him back on track whenever he was going off-track.
