Kwabre district assembly fails to elect new presiding member

Mamponteng (Ash), Oct. 14, GNA-The Kwabre District Assembly on Tuesday failed to elect a new Presiding Member (PM) after three rounds of balloting.

None of the three contestants, the incumbent PM, Dr A.K. Asante, Mr Samuel Boakye-Ansah and Mr Oppong Kyei-Baffour, could obtain the two-third majority at the end of the three rounds of voting conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Dr Asante polled 29 votes in the second round, Mr Kyei-Baffour, 24 votes and Mr Boakye-Ansah, seven votes.

In the third round, Dr Asante had 27 votes, Mr Kyei-Baffour 23 votes and Mr Boakye-Ansah, 10 votes.

Mr Edward Frimpong-Manso, the Kwabre District Coordinating Director, acting as the PM, called for the postponement of the voting to another time to be fixed by the assembly during which time members would have reflected on their positions.
