Agona West MP warns election disruptors

Kukurantumi (C/R), Oct 13, GNA – The government will not tolerate any group of people who would attempt to disrupt the December 2004 general election, Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, MP for Agona West, has stated. He said the government was committed to ensuring a free, fair and transparent election to enhance socio-economic development of the country.

Inaugurating a 200 million-cedi three classroom block at Kukurantumi in the Agona District of the Central Region on Tuesday, Mr Obodai stressed that the government would continue to protect and defend the peace and stability the country was enjoying and “will never allow any disgruntled people to disorganize the economic stability”. He urged the people to return the government to power to protect the freedom of speech they were enjoying.

Mr Obodai stated that the positive change brought about by the New Patriotic Party was evident, saying, “The people have tasted the change and they have to continue supporting the government for more development projects”.

The MP called on parents and guardians in the District to take advantage of the fee free basic education provided by the District Assembly to send their children and wards especially the girl-child to school.

He urged them to strive to invest in the education of their children, which the MP said was the key to success in life. Mr Obodai urged chiefs and opinion leaders to institute bye-laws banning children from roaming the streets during school hours and in the night after 8 o’clock and to encourage children to concentrate on their studies.

He gave the assurance that the District Assembly would clad all school pavilions built some years ago and renovate existing structures to facilitate teaching and learning.

Mr G B L Siilo, District Co-ordinating Director, said the Assembly would ensure an equitable distribution of education, health and sanitation facilities to improve the standard of living of people in the District.
