Accra, Oct. 12, GNA – The Centre for Democratic Development on Wednesday said the Report of the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) would provide the basis for the nation to embark on institutional reforms that would help prevent a recurrence of the past violations of human rights.
It said the submission of the final Report further marked an important milestone in Ghana’s search for enhanced public accountability and justice as well as genuine and sustainable national reconciliation. This was contained in a solidarity message signed by Justice V.C.R.A.C. Crabbe, Chairman of the CDD-Civil Society Coalition on NRC, in Accra.
It said although the completion and submission of the Report would not in itself represent the achievement of national reconciliation, it would lead ultimately to the creation of a culture of respect for human rights in Ghana.
The coalition expressed the hoped that the recommendations in the Report would be widely disseminated and publicized without undue politicisation to facilitate public education on the country’s political history.
Mr Yasmin Sooka and Dr Alex Boraine, Former Commissioner and Deputy Chairman of the South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, respectively, sent similar messages.
