Fraudster fined 20 million cedis

Tema, Oct. 11, GNA – The Tema Circuit Court ‘B’, has imposed a fine of 20 million cedis on a Businessman for fraud.

Stephen Ofosu, who pleaded not guilty have been ordered by the Court to refund an amount of 53.9 million cedis he took from the complainant under a pretext of supplying him with lorry tyres.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor, told the Court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye, that the accused approached the complainant in October 2002 and collected the amount as advanced payment for the goods.

He said the complainant issued two post-dated cheques covering the amount.

The prosecution said nine months elapsed without any sign of the tyres thus forcing the complainant to report the case to the police.
