Priests advised against amassing material wealth

Kumasi, Oct. 9, GNA – The Reverend Canon Cyril Ben Smith, a Lecturer at the St. Nicholas Anglican Seminary at Cape Coast, on Saturday advised the clergymen against using their positions to amass material wealth to the neglect of seeking the spiritual development of their followers and that of the society.

He said: “We stand the risk of giving room for people to doubt the credibility of the priesthood and also bringing the noble work to disrepute, if such material considerations dominate our work.” Rev. Smith was delivering a sermon at the ordination of three final year students of the St. Nicholas Anglican Seminary as deacons of the St. Paul’s Anglican church at North Suntreso in Kumasi.

He Brothers Daniel Pie, Richard Oteng Gyem and Samuel Kojo Nyame to strive to become genuine stewards of the highest moral order, adding that it was high time they devoted virtually all their time and energies to the divine guidance of their church members.

Rev Smith urged church leaders to intensify their evangelism to win more souls for Christ in the wake of socials vices and immorality. Rt. Rev Daniel Yinkah Sarfoh, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, called on churches to prayer for peaceful elections in December.
