Civil Servants sound alert bell

Accra, Oct. 8, GNA – The Accra District Branch of the Civil Servants’ Association on Friday gave the Government an ultimatum to inform them on the efforts being made to restore their July negotiated salaries, which were slashed.

It said if by October 15 they had not heard from the Government, “we will call for the withdrawal of our representatives from the negotiation table and advise ourselves accordingly”.

A statement Mrs Rhodalline Mensah Amoako, District Organizer, Mr George Mensah, District Chairman and Mr Christian Flafe, District Secretary, signed, said at a meeting on October 7, the Branch dispassionately discussed the injustice done and utmost disregard shown to them by the reduction of their negotiated salaries in July 2004 by the Government.

It said the reduction was causing them much financial hardship and emotional distress.

The statement said the members cherished the cordial relationship between them and the Government as their employer but would not entertain any decision that sought to vary their condition of service to their disadvantage.
