Sunyani (B/A), Sept. 7, GNA- The Right Reverend Kwame Omane-Achamfour Bishop of the Sunyani Methodist Diocese has urged Journalists to seek the word of God so that they could perform well. It is through the leadership of God that Journalists in this country could publish and broadcast truthful information.
Bishop Omane-Achamfour gave the advice at a meeting with a section of media in the Sunyani municipality on Thursday.
The meeting was organized by the African Enterprise (AE), an inter-denominational evangelist organization, in conjunction with all the local churches in the Sunyani municipality. It formed part of a weeklong evangelical program dubbed “Sunyani Mission 2004”.
Bishop Omane-Achamfour said media practitioners played very important role in the nation’s cause of promoting peace in the country. It is important for you to publish and broadcast information that would unite Ghanaians to help maintain the good image of the country. He said: ” The welfare of the nation depends on the unbiased reportage of the media”.
Right Reverend Dr Nii Amoo-Darku National Director of AE admonished Journalists to avoid partisan politics since taking sides could bring confusion, and anarchy.
He called on Journalists not to be a “vessel of destruction”. Rt. Rev. Amoo-Darku cited many instances where unguided reportage had either resulted in death or rendered some people homeless in some parts of Africa.
“Let your reportage build but not to tear people apart”, he urged them.
He asked Journalists to always try as much as possible to examine their conscience and see whether for any point in time they had caused a publication intended to create confusion in the country.
