Apprentice dressmakers take examination

Nkoranza (B/A), Oct. 5, GNA – The National Secretariat of Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association at the weekend conducted professional examination for 25 apprentices at Nkoranza. The Association conducted a similar examination for 18 apprentices in March this year also at Nkoranza.

Mr Yaw Baffoe, District Chairman of the Association told Ghana News Agency that, the major problem facing the association was that, some of the apprentices after completing their vocation refused to open their workshops to operate as expected.

“These apprentices either engage in trading or other economic activities” he said and advised them to desist from the practice. Mr Baffoe expressed regret about the reluctance of boys to learn vocations and prefer to be in the streets and at the lorry parks, pushing wheelbarrows and trucks for “quick money”. He called on parents with children in this category to encourage them to learn vocations to steer them away from engaging in social vices in future.

Miss Kate Owusu and Miss Amma Saah, trainers at “Hwe Dee Awurade Aye” Fashion Shop at Nkoranza in an interview with GNA called on parents to train and educate their children.

Mr Kwadwo Asare, popularly called “Kwadwo Tailor”, Vice-Chairman of the Nkoranza branch of the Association asked all tailors and dressmakers to come abreast with modern dressmaking.

Mr Prince Yaw Obah, a member of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Executives of the Association and Miss Margaret Ankoma Mansah, Treasurer of the Nkoranza District branch of the association supervised the seven-hour examination.
