Asesewa Health Centre upgraded to hospital status

Asesewa (E/R) Oct. 5, GNA – The Asesewa Health Centre was on Tuesday elevated to the status of a hospital when General Electric (GE) Company, a US-based organization, donated some medical equipment and inaugurated a new ward for the Hospital.

The equipment including a generator, a transformer, a patient monitor, ultrasound probes, Mobile X-ray, Lab accessories and some theatre equipment is worth 360,000 dollars.

Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), said at the ceremony that the building of a theatre and a new ward were efforts that the GHS was pursing to upgrade the centre to a district hospital.

He said the Ghana Health Service considered Upper Manya as one the priority communities that required urgent interventions to address its relatively poor health conditions.

“In pursuance of this a Doctor has been identified to manage some of the cases that are beyond the capabilities of the existing staff at Asesewa.”

Prof. Akosa said it was in this light that the Ministry of Health called for the implementation of inter-sectoral health improvement programmes that were fashioned in response to local health priorities. He commended GE for the support they had given to the health sector in Ghana.

Prof. Akosa advised staff in the hospital to treat patients with extra care and called on citizens of Asesewa to also help the Hospital staff to do their work well.

Mr Gustav Narh-Dometey, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, called on the GHS to help to renovate numerous clinics in the Upper Manya District.

Mr Bob Gerceron, Vice President of GE, praised citizens of Asesewa for their support during the project.
