Driver fined 2.5 million cedis for injuring policemen

Suhum (E/R), Sept. 29, GNA – A 30-year-old driver, who failed to stop at a police barrier and attempted to knock down a police Sergeant at Suhum was fined 2.5 million cedis or in default six months imprisonment in hard labour, by the Suhum Magistrate Court, presided over by Lt. Col. (Rtd) Alex Kofi Ayeh.

The accused person, Osumanu Amadu pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector S. K, Opong told the court that on September 14, this year, the accused, who was driving a taxi cab with registration number GT2049 H was travelling from Asamankese direction to Suhum at a top speed.

He said personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) including Sergeant George Lamptey, signaled the accused person to stop at a check-point but Amadu failed to stop but instead attempted to knock down Sgt. Lamptey, but he managed to escape.

Amadu was therefore chased and arrested and charged with the offence.
