Indian High Commissioner visits Nkroful

The Nzema East District Assembly has decided to develop Nkroful, the home town and the birth place of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana, as a tourist centre.

Mr. J. R. D. Kobinah, the District Chief Executive, announced this at a durbar in honour of Mr. Arun Kumar Banerjee, the Indian High Commissioner, at Nkroful on Tuesday.

The project which would be in memory of Dr Nkrumah Is expected to attract both local and international tourists to the district.

Mr. Kobinah urged Indians who wish to invest in Ghana, to do that at Nkroful saying, “you can invest in the hotel or cottage industries”.

Mr. Banerjee who was on a familiarisation tour of the area said the visit signified the deep friendship between India and Ghana which has been cordial for several decades.

India, he said, would continue to share her development experience and knowledge on setting up small- scale industries with Ghana..

Other possible areas of co-operation could include manpower training and agriculture, he added.

Mr. Banerjee later presented five footballs and a typewriter to the Nkroful community which were received by Nana Brumia Twum the fourth, chief of Nkroful.

He later laid a wreath at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum on behalf of the Government and people of India..
