KNUST restructured into six component colleges

Kumasi, Sept. 18, GNA – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been restructured into six component colleges to replace the faculty system. Professor Kwesi Andam, Vice-Chancellor of the University, who announced this, said the new collegiate system, which was expected to take-off by December 1, this year, would each be headed by a provost.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony of the University in Kumasi on Saturday, he named the new colleges as College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, College of Architecture and Planning, College of Art and Social Science, College of Engineering, College of Health Science and College of Science. In all, 7,160 undergraduates and post-graduate students were matriculated for the 2004/2005 academic year.

Professor Andam expressed disgust about the use of hard drugs on the campus by some recalcitrant students and warned that any student who would be caught using hard drugs would be dismissed instead of the lenient punishment of “rustification”.

The Senior Minister, Mr J.H. Mensah, cautioned students not to spend their time doing politics on the campus but focus on their study programmes. He said even though it was important for students to learn about politics and be abreast with national issues, they should not allow politics to over-shadow their studies nor should they practice it on the campus.

“Keep your eyes sharply focused on your study programme since that is your main purpose and mission for being on the campus and then reserve active politics to be pursued after completing your studies or when you are out of school”, the Senior Minister advised the students
