Adontenhene of Peki Traditional Area passes away

Accra, Sept.16, GNA- The Peki Traditional Council, has announced the death of Togbe Ayim Ameyibor V, the Adontenhene of the Traditional Area and Chief of Peki Avetile, after a short illness. Togbe Ameyibor, known in private life as Major Johnny Akwasi Ameyibor (Rtd), formerly of the Ho Mortar Regiment, died at the 37 Military Hospital on June 6, 2004.

The Funeral Planning Committee issued a press release on the biography of the late chief in Accra on Thursday. It said Togbe Ameyibor, a product of Achimota College, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, passed out as the best officer cadet in 1968 at the Teshie Military Academy. In 1982, Togbe Ameyibor formed the Coptopaxi Enterprises Limited, a construction company, after a successful career in the Ghana Armed Forces. He was the leading national school athlete in the 1960s and former Chairman of the Ho Lawn Tennis Club.

Togbe Ameyibor was also the Chairman of the Ho Voradep Football Club that won the 1992 Knockout Championship and represented Ghana in Dakar, Senegal in the defunct African Cup Winners Cup. He was enstooled as Chief of Peki Avetile and Adontenhene in 1995 and worked tirelessly with his colleagues in re-uniting Gbidzigbe (Hohoe) and Gbinyigbe (Peki) after 300 years of geographical separation, leading to the institution of the annual Gbidulkor festival. “Togbe Ameyibor armed with the vision of good quality and value of education supported a number of pupils to secondary schools in Ho and other places. “It was his ardent wish to establish a foundation to support education of clever but needy children.”
