Teye retains candidature

Ashaiman, Sept. 13, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Kingsford Kwesi Teye, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, was at the weekend elected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the constituency, in the party’s primaries held at Ashaiman.

He secured 70 votes as against 28 pulled by his opponent, Mr Patrice Siaw Djangmah, a mechanical engineer.

By his election, Mr Teye has retained his candidature to contest the upcoming elections for the party.

After the election, which was conducted in an orderly and a peaceful atmosphere, Mr Djamgmah conceded defeat, and congratulated Mr Teye for his resounding victory.

Mr Teye thanked members of the party for the confidence reposed in him, and commended the delegates for the matured and disciplined manner in which they conducted themselves during voting.

He stated that with its heterogeneous social, ethnic and religious groupings, Ashaiman needed rapid development, and therefore pledged to harness both human and material resources, in order to speed up the constituency’s development programmes.

Mr Joseph Ofosu Siaw, constituency secretary, appealed to the hierarchy of the NPP to revisit the proposed amendment of article six, subsection 14 (two) of the party’s constitution, to include all pooling stations executives as delegates of future parliamentary congresses.

He was optimistic that, by so doing, contesting candidates would be discouraged from influencing delegates with money to entice them to vote for wrong candidates.
