Begoro (E/R), Sept. 11, GNA- The Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Ebenezer Ofoe Caesar, has said cultural practices are not bad as some people perceived.
Mr Caesar said this in a speech read for him by the Deputy District Co-ordinating Director, Alhaji Seidu Abanga, at the inauguration of an 11-member District Cultural Advisory Committee at Begoro on Wednesday. The committee is to advise the District Directorate of the Centre for National Culture on how to promote culture and cultural education programmes for the revival of traditional cultures in the district. Mr Caesar expressed concern at the manner people linked traditional cultural practices to juju and witchcraft.
He urged stakeholders to review and modify outmoded cultural practices to replace the foreign cultures. The Eastern Regional Deputy Director of the Centre for National
Culture, Mr Innocent Koomson, asked chiefs to release land to establish “Cultural Villages” to house works of craftsmen and musicians and also serve as a forum for recreation and training of the youth in income generating skills.
He appealed to the committee to ensure that the numerous waterfalls in the district are developed into tourist centres to generate income for the District Assembly.
