Ghana’s Black Stars have returned from their November international tour to Asia without a win, but the team’s Vice Chairman, Stephen Appiah, has praised the squad for their spirited performances against Japan and South Korea.
The World Cup-bound side began their tour with a 2-0 defeat to Japan at the Toyota Stadium, followed by a narrow 1-0 loss to South Korea at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. Despite the setbacks, Appiah, a former Black Stars captain, highlighted the progress and effort shown by the players.
“I’m so happy with the performance of the guys, especially in the second game against South Korea. Against Japan, the second half they played well, and against South Korea they played even better,” Appiah told Kobe Boujee.
He added that while results are important, performance matters just as much. “You watch certain games and see teams losing, but fans still applaud them, which means they gave everything. That’s what our guys did. Also, platforms like these give players, who have been in camp for months, the chance to show themselves,” he said.
The Black Stars will regroup in March to continue preparations for next year’s FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The team will learn their group opponents on December 5.
