Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie pledges commitment to rule of law and separation of powers

Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, newly inaugurated as Ghana’s Chief Justice, has assured the nation that he will safeguard judicial independence and defend the Constitution.

 

During his swearing-in on Monday, November 17, he emphasised that the judiciary must remain autonomous, stressing accountability and the protection of each judge’s independence.

 

In his formal pledge, the Chief Justice stated: “Mr. President, in accepting this office, I give my solemn word that I will uphold the rule of law. Respect the separation of powers and protect the Constitution. I will respect the independence of every judge and ensure that the judiciary remains free from improper influence. I will also insist on accountability.”

 

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie now officially takes over full leadership of the judiciary, charged with maintaining its integrity and guiding its operations moving forward.
