The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Black Stars midfielder Abu Francis is in a stable condition following the serious injury he sustained during Friday’s Kirin Challenge Cup match against Japan.
The 24-year-old was fouled by Japan’s Ao Tanaka shortly after the start of the second half, prompting an immediate response from medical staff. After receiving emergency treatment on the pitch, Francis was rushed to the Toyota Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.
According to the GFA, the Black Stars’ medical team has been working closely with the Toulouse FC team doctor and specialists at the hospital. The medical teams have held what the Association described as “comprehensive meetings” to determine the most appropriate management plan for the midfielder.
In a statement, the GFA expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for the “support and outpouring of solidarity” following the incident. Officials added that updates regarding Francis’ planned surgery and recovery timeline will be communicated in the coming hours.
The Association concluded by wishing the player a “speedy recovery,” as fans and teammates continue to rally around the midfielder during his time on the sidelines.
