Dr. Stephen Amoah, Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, has asserted that the John Mahama-led administration is currently enjoying the fruits of the solid economic groundwork laid by former President Akufo-Addo’s government.
Speaking ahead of the 2026 Budget Statement scheduled for presentation on Thursday, November 13, Dr. Amoah emphasized that the current administration cannot take credit for the nation’s economic performance, as it has not yet introduced any major policy initiatives.
“The economy is doing well, but the NDC government and this whole executive body have done virtually nothing about the economy. They haven’t done anything. What have they done?” he questioned.
The former Deputy Finance Minister under the Akufo-Addo government further noted that the present administration inherited a strong and well-resourced economy.
“They are not underperforming their benchmark, but they are still in the preparatory stage. You can’t use six months just to turn things around. I’m not saying they are not doing well or they are doing well, but they should be honest with Ghanaians,” he remarked.
According to Dr. Amoah, the country’s current economic stability is largely the outcome of the prudent fiscal management of the previous government.
“The performance of the economy today has virtually nothing to do with the NDC government. What we’re experiencing today is as a result of the prudent economic management of the previous administration,” he stressed.
