Five Collapse, One in Critical condition at Kumasi Military Recruitment Exercise

Devastating scenes unfolded at two military recruitment centers today, with five people collapsing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and six fatalities reported at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

In Kumasi, one person is in critical condition at Emena Hospital, while four others receive treatment at Ashanti South Government Hospital. To prevent further casualties, National Security officers have arranged for the Ghana Fire Service to provide water for the recruits, and some applicants have been asked to return on Thursday and Friday to reduce overcrowding.

The Accra incident has been attributed to overcrowding and chaotic scenes, with thousands of individuals rushing to secure enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces.

The GAF has confirmed six deaths, with 28 people taken to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment, including five in ICU and 12 in critical condition. The recruitment exercise at El-Wak Sports Stadium has been suspended indefinitely.

The Ghana Armed Forces has expressed regret over the incidents and assured the public that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedies .

President John Mahama has visited victims at the 37 Military Hospital.
