Ghana Boosts Border Security as Togo Instability Escalates – Defense Ministry

The Ministry of Defense has adopted a comprehensive contingency framework to address potential security risks posed by the recent political instability in Togo.

Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, disclosed this in response to a question by Hon Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho.

According to him, the ministry has intensified joint patrols along the Ghana-Togo border to deter infiltration and prevent territorial encroachment

Also, prepositioning of humanitarian logistics at designated reception centers to manage potential refugee inflows

He stated that, instructions has been issued to troops to exercise maximum restraint and engage only in the event of a direct and imminent threat.

Deputy Minister Genfi emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability within Ghana’s borders, safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and dignity.

The Ghana Armed Forces is working closely with other security and intelligence agencies to preempt and respond to any adverse effects of the situation in Togo.

He added that, the Ministry has also considered using local languages to deepen communication and information operations, ensuring the effectiveness of their efforts.

The move is aimed at assuring Ghanaians of their safety and security amidst the instability in Togo.
