The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has announced that November 30 and December 1, 2025, will mark what is expected to be the concluding session of his mediation in the long-standing Bawku chieftaincy dispute.
A statement issued by the Manhyia Palace and signed by Chief of Staff Kofi Badu highlighted the Asantehene’s appreciation for both factions’ constructive participation throughout the process.
“His Majesty praises both sides for their positive approach to the mediation so far and appeals to all concerned to avoid any actions likely to affect the progress towards a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict,” the statement said.
The mediation, led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is part of broader efforts to restore peace and stability in the Bawku area, where tensions over traditional leadership have persisted for years, resulting in loss of lives and property.
The Asantehene’s role has been widely acknowledged as a trusted conflict resolution initiative, earning commendation from traditional authorities, political figures, and peacebuilding organizations across the country.
Observers note that the upcoming session could prove decisive in ending one of Ghana’s most protracted chieftaincy disputes.
The Manhyia Palace has called on all parties and residents of Bawku to support the peace process, emphasizing that achieving lasting stability will benefit both the region and the nation as a whole.
