SML Appeals to Mahama to Reconsider Termination of Contracts with GRA and Finance Ministry

Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) has urged President John Dramani Mahama to review his decision to terminate all agreements involving the company, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The appeal follows a recent presidential directive, communicated through Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, instructing the immediate cancellation of all contracts linked to SML. The order was based on findings by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which alleged procurement irregularities and possible acts of corruption in the SML–GRA agreement.

In a press briefing on Friday, November 7, SML’s lawyer, Cephas Boyuo, revealed that the company had submitted a detailed response to the Presidency, containing evidence that directly addresses and refutes the OSP’s claims.

“Earlier today, we presented a comprehensive report to the President regarding his directive on the SML–GRA–Finance Ministry contract, which was largely influenced by the OSP’s report,” Boyuo stated.

He explained that the company’s submission, also copied to the Attorney-General, included extensive documentation clarifying what SML described as inaccuracies in the OSP’s conclusions.

“In our letter to the President and the Attorney-General, we attached documentary proof addressing each allegation and explaining the true context of the agreements between SML, the GRA, and the Ministry of Finance,” he added.

Mr. Boyuo further appealed to President Mahama to conduct a careful review of the documents before making a final decision.

“We are confident that once the President and the Attorney-General examine the materials we have provided, they will gain a clearer understanding of the matter and form an independent judgment,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the Presidency would take a second look at the termination directive, taking into account the company’s explanations and supporting evidence.
