Home Based Care programme launched at Wenchi

Wenchi (B/A), Sept. 8, GNA – The Reverend Mavis Hanna Yeboah of the Christian Health Association of Ghana on Wednesday launched the Home Based Care Programme at the Methodist Hospital at Wenchi in Brong Ahafo. She said the Wenchi programme was the 28th to be established by the Association and swore its five-member management committee into office. She explained that, the programme was established to help reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS “because there will be a time when about 80 per cent of hospital beds will be occupied by victims of the pandemic”. Rev. Yeboah stressed that Home Based Care was not for the institutions alone but was owned by the Community Health Volunteers and Committees.

Mr John Nyarko of the Wenchi District Assembly said the programme would help build the capacities of volunteers, who would educate and advise the communities to avoid the pandemic and other diseases. He pledged the Assembly’s support for the programme and called on NGOs, individuals, religious bodies and Chiefs to also lend their support.
