The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Jaman South in the Bono Region, Hon. Siata Watara, has issued a warning to individuals who neglect to participate in the National Sanitation Day exercise, which occurs on the first Saturday of every month in the country. She emphasized the importance of participation in future exercises within the Jaman South Municipality, stating that non-compliance will result in strict penalties.
The MCE delivered this announcement during a sanitation exercise conducted by the assembly, in collaboration with Nananom and other relevant stakeholders, within the Drobo township. She highlighted that these monthly cleanup exercises are essential for promoting environmental cleanliness and ensuring the maintenance of public health and hygiene.
The MCE declared that those who fail to fulfill their civic responsibility in contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment will be subject to the applicable laws of the Assembly and the country as a whole.
Mr. Christopher Frimpong, the Environmental Health Officer for Jaman South Municipal, conveyed the preparedness of the Environmental Health Officers to improve the sanitation efforts. He stressed that a clean environment fosters a healthy life, which in turn promotes the growth and progress of the nation. Mr. Frimpong expressed gratitude to the President for leading this initiative and appealed for the provision of essential sanitation materials to support the exercise.
Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako, the Chief of the Drobo Traditional Area, who was present at the clean up exercise, cautioned against the practice of placing “Do not Urinate here” signs to deter individuals from urinating in certain areas. He noted that urination is a natural phenomenon, and preventing it could lead to embarrassment for individuals. Additionally, he criticized the practice of selling goods on pedestrian walkways within the Drobo township. He urged the assembly to ensure that no one conducts sales on the pavement, as it is designated for pedestrians and other road users, not as a marketplace.
