The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has arrived in Ghana for a three-day state visit aimed at deepening relations between the two nations.
He was welcomed on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft.
An official welcome ceremony will take place today, Monday, November 3, at the Forecourt of the Jubilee House, where President Steinmeier is expected to inspect a full military Guard of Honour.
President Steinmeier will later hold a closed-door meeting with President John Dramani Mahama, followed by bilateral talks between their respective delegations in the Credentials Room. The discussions will center on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, technology, and sustainable development.
A state luncheon will be hosted at the Presidential Banquet Hall in honour of the visiting German leader and his delegation.
As part of his itinerary, President Steinmeier will pay tribute at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, where he will lay a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He will also meet with a group of young Ghanaian IT professionals before attending a reception at the German Ambassador’s Residence in Accra.
On Tuesday, November 4, President Steinmeier will travel to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, where he will perform a sod-cutting ceremony at the Kumasi Technical Institute. His visit will also include engagements with the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor (Mrs) Rita Akosua Dickson, as well as staff and alumni of the university.
The German President will further tour the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research and pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace.
President Steinmeier is scheduled to depart Ghana on Tuesday evening after concluding his official engagements.
