No Rift Between OSP and Attorney General – Kissi Agyebeng Clarifies

By: Akua Oteng Amponsah

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has dismissed reports suggesting any misunderstanding between his office and that of the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, over the ongoing extradition case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, October 30, Mr. Agyebeng stressed that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Office of the Attorney General (AG) are working in close cooperation, describing rumours of a rift as entirely inaccurate.

“It’s unfortunate that there’s been talk about dockets, and we’ve refused to give the docket and all. That is beside the point; that is not the issue at all,” he said. “The issue is that you need to get it right the first time; you don’t keep going back and forth.”

Mr. Agyebeng further noted that the ongoing legal processes would continue regardless of Mr. Ofori-Atta’s citizenship status. According to him, holding a U.S. passport would not shield the former minister from extradition.

“US citizenship status doesn’t prevent extradition. We will not give up; we will still move on with the processes and ensure that Ghanaians become less restive and appreciate the work we’re doing with the Attorney General,” he added.

The Special Prosecutor reiterated his office’s commitment to seeing the case through in partnership with the Attorney General, assuring the public that due process is being followed.
